    Remain relevant in the recession

    Friday, April 24th, 2009

Money is getting tight for all businesses. It’s times like this that you must remain on your toes or the tides will drag you under. The recession is making mincemeat of businesses that operate with large overheads and if a business is relying on credit to remain afloat then times are about to get seriously tough. It’s definitely time for a rethink into how your business operates; where you can cut back on spends you should but that doesn’t mean stopping spending all together. You have to spend smart.

One of the success stories of the past five years has been Royal Mail who last year announced they had doubled their profits. It comes at a time when many expected Royal Mail to begin losing significant portions of their market to the new technology of email but as the internet expanded, so too did Royal Mails profits. Online business has fuelled this growth and Royal Mail quickly saw the potential of an expanding delivery market. They have now invested in a product helping new business to grow in the rapidly changing online market, a sure sign that online trading is set to continue to pull in profits for businesses.

The ease of access to market, the lack of overheads, and the size of a global economy make trading online an attractive prospect. Web design has never been better value because of the massive amount of competition from developing economies in India and Eastern Europe. Despite this there are normally local places you can get your website designed, the advantage of which is being able to sit down and talk to your designers. None-the-less choosing a designer in the Far East is sometimes a good option, it entirely depends on how straight forward your project is. If all you need is a simple static webpage then getting a freelancer in India is a good option, but if you want function, a site that ranks well in search engines, bespoke design and a headache free developlment process then it really pays to spend the extra cash on a local designer.

Just do a simple search, “web design manchester“, for example, and you’ll pull in plenty of local agencies ready to build your online business. Spend money improving your own system of online trading because it’s proven to work. Treat your website as a precious comodity and remember that websites continually need updating to remain relevant so spend smart. You’d better start swimming or you’ll sink like a stone, your website needs to be top notch or you’ll become less relevant than betamax.

    Keyword Spying

    Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

When you setting up a PPC or pay per click campaign, have you wondered why some competitors can get on top of the PPC listing? I’ve found some tools that let you “spy” how much your competitor is bidding in Google, for example and what are the keywords, that they are bidding. The first tool I want to introduce is Google Keyword Tools

Sometimes ago, Google has updated the tools and included a URL text box like that:

    Google Keyowrd tools new feature

You can type in any URL in the box and fetch any keywords that the URL is buying at the moment.
For example: (for security reasons, I have blocked out the URL).

the example’s showing one website that are advertising the keywords “search engine optimization” and its variations. You Can also view your competitors average cost per click and average ad position in your region. It is quite a powerful tool. The only thing this software will tell you approximately how many people are searching for those terms and

how many people are bidding those terms by a “green bar” as shown in the figures. It also doesn’t show what keywords are your competitors optimizing! so it is a fair tool but not good enough.

    Spyfu

There are some tools in the market that gives you an idea on how your competitors are doing for your search engine optimization, their PPC campaigns, and also their competitors. The beautiful for those tools you can also view the details of how they write their ads, what average positions are their PPC ads and more. The first tool I want to introduce you is SpyFu.com You can look at the screen shot here:

spyfu As you can on the picture, it listed top keywords that the site is ranking for organic and also the keywords that that site is advertising on Search Engines (PPC). If you click on the first keyword “PPC Training” on Advertising column, you will see the title and the description line of your competitor ads. Well, one theory is if they are continuing use this advertisement,

then do you think you can use it as reference? I think you can. This piece of information’s alone worth $97 and most so called PPCs gurus probably won’t revealed it to the public. But as I learned more, I think why not share it to someone who want to learn?

I’ll continue sharing you these “secrets” or tactics around so stay tune!.
