Host your wordpress blog

Last time we talk about free blog hosting such as wordpress.com, today, we will talk about “Host your own blog” . Again I will show wordpress as an example since it is the most popular and most easy software to install and configure. You can use others blog software such as blogger, movableType, TypePad, and so on, but we stick on wordpress.

To host your own wordpress, you need to have your hosting account set up first. If you do not have a hosting account, I will recommend you to sign up a hostgator unlimited domain account since probably the most affordable hosting and good quality of customer services around the world. Now back to our host your own blog, simply follow the step below:

1. Go to wordpress.org and download the latest verson
   

2. upzip it to a folder e.g. c:\wordpress

3. upload to your server using a ftp program. One free ftp program I use named FileZilla, download the latest Windows version, and install it by double click the .exe file. Follow the steps on screen.

4. Once you have download and set up your ftp program, you simply upload the whole wordpress folder that you have unzipped from step 2 to your public_html, or www folders to your remote server.

5. For wordpress to work, you need to create a database, a database user and its password. Please ask your hostor if you don’t know how to do this.

6. When you have everything done, just run an installation script by typing in”http://www.YourDomain.com/wp-admin/install.php” on your browser where yourDomain.com is your domain registered in the steps above.

The process actually does not stop here in order to have your blog to make money you need to install some extra software on your wordpress to make it to be found on search engine and visitors that may interest your topics. How do you do that?
