    co-op lists why I think it doesn’t work

    Last time we talked about why you should building an email list by an analogy of a customer database right? This time, I am going to talk about automatic email system instead it is an intermediate insert for the subject “list building”. Recently I came across a company which sales letter said:

    Online Marketing Experts Reveal Their 100% Proven Success System For Creating Massively Profitable
    Email Lists Quickly and Easily… GUARANTEED!

    Just ’set it and forget it’ as you watch your lists grow on autopilot…

    The autopilot did strike me. Everyone loves autopilot right? with the minimum of effort and get the right things done. Now this time I am going to say this concept doesn’t work for me although they are promising to get a “targeted audience with high response rate” which is already taken care of by a group of expert marketers!”

    May be take a few moment on what does this co-op mailing concept first. Their concept is they are going to build you email lists that are targeted to 3 different markets: namely make money online (a.k.a Internet Marketing), health and shopping. As far as I know they get their subscribers via search engine optimization. They may have websites talking about those topics and make them to rank high for certain keywords then when users search for such topics they will have promote their newsletter and ask them to leave their email contacts. That what co-op lists advertises on their website. Now as the service purchaser, you decide which groups you want to market and send your messages across.

    It sounds good, doesn’t it? It does at the first glance. However, as I found out more information about this service, I started to realize this co-op list concepts don’t work. Why?

    You can ONLY email to your targeted list once a month and there are about 12-14 marketers that are sharing with you with that list?

    If you are in the internet marketing industry for a while, you will know most successful marketers won’t just email to their subscribers once a month. I am not saying they always sell you something but rather they’ll give you some a useful free reports and share their personal emotions or experience that you may get benefited from. I think this is real truth about list building. Friendship building, treating your subscribers as friends!

    With only one message per month to your subscribers across, do you think will really know who are you and what is your product? Don’t forget there is other 10-15 marketers in the list as well! That’s why I think it doesn’t work. Getting one message per month across makes one has to stretch their head and think very careful on what kind of messages they will like the subscribers know. I mean to a person that is completely new (because they market it as an autopilot solution that typically market to newbie. ), getting a very well crafted email in a month is hard! If you’re going give away freebie then you have to test if you send a message in the beginning, the middle or the end of month more effective. By the time you found out, it may be already a year!!

    Therefore if one completely relies on this solution, perhaps 1 year later, you are still the same guy that you started today!

    How sad is it!

    List Building, Why you should build a mailing list

    You always heard the money is in the list“! What the hell is it all mean? A list often refers to the mailing list or to be precise, an email list in online marketing world. It basically means a company’s customers database which contains their names, emails, phone number and so on. Now, by establish the customers databases, you can just go and contact those people and sell them your products or services and don’t have to worry about too much on advertising right? In other words, it saves you time, energy and cost to creating

    an advertising campaign which you may not know the end results. If you don’t have a customer database, then you have to advertise and advertise again, which cost money!

    In apply to our earn cash online topic, it is also true. If you don’t have a list, then you don’t have many choices left that is either you advertise your products or services through search engine ads like pay per click , the quickiest way or through others internet marketing channels, like SEO, social media and so on.

    In my personal experience it is more harder to sell your products or services to strangers than to people you’ve have already known. In particular if your stuffs are more on the expensive side. You will easily buy a newspaper from any news stand than a LCD 40″ High Definition TV from an electrical appliance store that you haven’t heard of.

    You are most likely going to Walmart, Best Buy, or something similar to buy the LCD TV rather than the one next to downtown 4th avenue that you never heard of, the shop looks ugly and you don’t know if they will sell you stuffs that are low qualities, and easy to break!

    Back to online example, if you are selling things that are much more on the expensive sides like $47, $67, $97, and no proof whatsoever, that system will help them to reduce their credit cards debts, make more money online or etc, your first time visitors most likely wouldn’t buy from you. Because they don’t trust you, they don’t know who are you, and they know nothing about your product. You said it is good, but what if it turns out to be bad? So this is what list building comes into play.

    Buy building a mailing list, you give chances to your visitors to know more about you and your products. Once they think you are a trustworthy person, and your systems works for them, they most likely will give it a try. If it turns out to be good, they will come back and buy more. So in summary, by building a mailing list, you can:

    1. Save your costs
    2. Establish a relationship with your visitors so they can learn more about you and your products. Once a trust relationship is formed, they most likely will return and buy more from you.
