Day by day, internet based businesses are flourishing and getting competitive. As an internet marketer, it is imperative to keep up with the latest trends or be lost in oblivion. More and more people have come to realize the endless possibilities of having an online business. In response to this, another viable option is available to achieve the competitive edge in the online business arena. This is called the JV or joint venture giveaways. This is a great way to build your email list or just pick up new, good quality products for free.

Essentially, joint ventures are the merging of two or more people or companies and sharing resources, products or services and efforts. There are two main purposes to JV giveaways. They are to help internet marketers to increase the size of their lists by contributing to the giveaway and getting subscribers who want to download their free gift. This is called Email List Generation. The other purpose is that they are also a very good source for other internet marketers to find some valuable information and products for free.

Then, as a JV partner you start promoting the event to other joint venture partners. The JV giveaway itself starts with the announcement of the event and member sign ups. Aside from email list generation, you will be able to increase your credibility within your particular niche if you are linked with another business owner. This is especially true if you happen to be linked to an authority of the particular niche. In line with this, your keyword choice must be effective to be identified with a popular niche and have associations that will be helpful for your online business.

How many times you heard “money is in the list”? I heard it many times why? Because with a list of subscribers you can find ways to monetize it easily: e.g you can sell them affiliate or your own products, you can provide useful contents and sells your advertising space on your ezine, you can drive traffic to your adsense sites and if your subscribers click on the ads, you can make some money, you can do quite a lot with your subscribers.

But first you need to know how to build a list. In this tutorial, we will going through step by step on how do I build my list. There are lots of ways but I will put only what works for me and that’s it.

So how do you build a list?

First step, get an autoresponder. What is an autoresponder? you ask. Autoresponder basically is a computer program that sends preset email messages to your subscribers. I mean you can send a message when someone optin your list immediately, then 2 days later you send them another message. This what an autoresponder can do for you. I am not going through the details here. If you are not sure, of how autoresponder works, you can try optin to one my list “Ultimate Marketing Guide”, It is a free report that shows you how do you get free traffic, get top 10 rankings in Google and many more. If you don’t know how it works, I will recommend you sign up to that list and get a feel. Don’t worry you can opt-out anytime, and your information will be 100% safe.

Anyway, so your first step will be getting a reliable autoresponder. Many marketers will suggest you sign up with Aweber or GetResponse. Personally I haven’t tried Aweber but I did try GetResponse. It is a good system. There are videos show you step by step on how to set it up. The best part I like about the system is they have a “spam filter” built in ; what I mean is how likeliness that your email will get caught with spam. You know spamming is a big issue in email marketing. To make sure you important message delivered to your subscribers inbox, I think this feature is important.

But what I don’t like Getresponse is they let your subscribers to optin to your competitors list. What I mean they will show you another boxes that you can subscribe to!

So today your action step will be signed up an autoresponder, get familiar with it and that’s it.

when you come and visit my blog, you will notice there is a pop-up screen always appear, and it says subscribe to get a free keyword software. I do it on purpose and this is part of the test on how well this little wordpress plug-in converts you guys to be my subscriber. So far I don’t have an answer but the purpose of this article is to show you how to build a mailing list by giving away free useful stuffs.

The key here is useful. If you do it on some crap things but with good headlines, people may still subscribe your list but later on they most likely will unsubscribe it because they are “crap” things, or just junk little software. So what’s the secret about it.

Well, at first you have to know your target audience. For example this blog is about “ways to make money online“
right? The first step to start making money is to find your profitable and comfortable niche, ok. So how do you do this?

One way to find a niche as I pointed early on “Does your niche work” is by conducting a keyword research. Therefore I found a keyword research software somewhere that allows me to give it away and yet have some basic functions of a keyword research tool should behave. ie. gather a list of profitable keywords, find how many competitions there are on
Google, Yahoo and MSN, and let one exporting the data to excel using a so called csv format file.

But before I started to give it away, there are some important steps that you should take note from:

• Prepare an opt-in page to capture your visitors’ email address,
• set up an autoresponder,
• and prepared a video to show how to use this software recorded in your own voice. (important if you are giving away software)

Every step is important and you miss one of those, you may not have a good result that it should, all right?

Now I am telling something I did wrong 6 months ago. At that time, I had a free give away report on showing how a single person makes $9000 in 3 months for adsense that had absolutely no experience in the past. At that time, I did not set up an autoresponder, nor had an opt-in page, I basically put an ad on a high traffic forum where most audiences want to make some money. The ad did run great, I had about 40 people to ask me to send them the report via email just about 1 day or 2. The things I did was just asking the forums mates to private message me their email address so that I could send them the report. You may say there was nothing wrong but it was time consuming since I had to always check my email and send them report one by one (sometimes bcc or cc) to their email addresses! That time I was just started on internet marketing and didn’t want to buy any autoresponder services and it took me another day to finish sending the report! where I could post more ads on other forums and I can get more subscribers and later I might sell them stuffs that may have interested in!!

So to set up an autoresponder and have the software, report or gifts downloaded to your subscriber inbox it’s important.

But before you set up an auto responder you should have some kind of sales letter like opt-in page about some benefits and feature about this gifts and most importantly the opt-in form. Make sure you change the color of the background of your leads capture form that way your subscriber will know what to do.
