L time, I have written a post about if and .edu domain helps in term of SEO benefits. Today I want to write up my findings here.
Not .EDU links help to boost this site search ranking
I added similar .edu domains to two competitive sites; one is this one with the keywords “make money online and the other one will be affordable web hosting, this site is in the first five page in Google results but my other website is no where to be found.
Case Studies
So my findings suggest a link from .edu domains do NOT necessary help to boost the site search rankings. Why? Let us check the first few position of the keywords of what Google gives, one site carlocab.com does not have an .edu incoming link, but he is on the first page, another example will be moneymakerinfo.blogspot.com, this site too does not have an incoming .edu link. So I can safely say Google may treat an .edu domain incoming link similar to other incoming links that from other domains.
What makes the boost of the positioning?
What makes the boost of the search engine positioning of this site is before I hooked up a link or two at the .edu forums, I went to digital point forums and sponsored one and two wordpress themes. If you recalled I did make a post about the SEO advanced techniques. Basically the sponsored links will be appeared at the footer location of the themes, just like this one where you can download and use, giveaway if you like. These technique is still work and you should employ if you are looking to dominate Google for some competitive keywords like “make money online”
Tomorrow it will Easter holidays and I will try post one or two articles here about setting up autoresponder etc. Also please comment here to get a backlink and free traffic to your site since I have commentLuv on.
Thanks
Hrmm, I always thought that .edu and .gov extensions greatly helped PR.

Hi Susan, the power of .edu links is a guess to many SEO experts. As always, only Google engineers how exactly they rank a website and other factors are just purely a guess.
So don’t blindly trust the so called “SEO gurus” without a thorough test yourself.
I strongly recommend that you turn the No Follow off in your comment section. I’ll watch Google Webmaster Tools, and if the links don’t show up after a couple of weeks — I won’t go back to that blog again. Another suggestion: you should have a Top Commentator widget installed. Do Follow and Top Commentator will ensure that you have a successful blog with lots of readers!
i didn’t mind using .edu to be the backlink before but most probably it will have an impact to your site if you have one. Do you know of a .edu site that i can link to? like a .edu forum where we can register for free?
Nice site you’ve got and very informative!:-)
