When talking about affiliate marketing, one perception that many newbies have is affiliate marketing is easy, you don’t need to set up a website, a product, or anything. You just send visitors to the merchant sites and that’s it! In some sense, I agree, one doesn’t need to set up their own products, but to succeed in affiliate marketing, in my opinion, you need to do something special that your competitors will NOT do. Testing Your Products Ideas
But before you want to set up your own products or services, you may want to test if there is anyone looking for such a product or service first. How do you do that? It’s easy, go to Google Keyword Tool External, plugged in the keywords you have in mind and see if there is a decent average monthly search volume, e.g 5000+. Jot down all the possibilities of the keywords, then go to Google.com and do a search for each keyword. When you are doing a search for each keyword, take a note if there is some advertisers for the keywords you have just plugged in. If there are some, 5-10 which means there are some investment potential for the keywords. Then you will know if you can go and design what kind of products you can set up for this market.
Benefits of Setting Your Own Products
Personally I do think you will need to take same amount of effort when promoting your own products/services or an affiliate program of someone else just because you have to face some level of competition anyway. You can always earn more by setting up an affiliate program for your own and offer some attractive commissions to your affiliates which may potentially earn you more money and working less.
