Not .EDU links help to boost this site search ranking
I added similar .edu domains to two competitive sites; one is this one with the keywords “make money online and the other one will be affordable web hosting, this site is in the first five page in Google results but my other website is no where to be found.
Case Studies
So my findings suggest a link from .edu domains do NOT necessary help to boost the site search rankings. Why? Let us check the first few position of the keywords of what Google gives, one site carlocab.com does not have an .edu incoming link, but he is on the first page, another example will be moneymakerinfo.blogspot.com, this site too does not have an incoming .edu link. So I can safely say Google may treat an .edu domain incoming link similar to other incoming links that from other domains.
What makes the boost of the positioning?
What makes the boost of the search engine positioning of this site is before I hooked up a link or two at the .edu forums, I went to digital point forums and sponsored one and two wordpress themes. ]]>In SEO world, getting links from authority sites thought to be the most important task on the SEO campaign itself. An authority site means the site itself has a high Google Page Rank (4 or above), a domain is from .edu or .gov. I did think it was a purely a myth, why a link from .edu or .gov consider an authority link? What about a link from my local government website or some respectful education institute? Did it consider as an authority link as well?
Today I am still not sure it is a myth or not but from my recent experience, I found a link or from the domain .edu may help. The reason is this blog was found no where top 100 in Google search for the keywords “make money online” but suddenly it jumps to the third page for that keywords. But one little experience doesn’t prove if the power comes from the .edu links or the recent Google search algorithm changes. Therefore, I am testing it with anther domain I own with several .edu links as well.
If that site experience a search ranking boost, then the conclusion for this test is .edu links are more likely to boost one site search engine ranking. Later probably 2 weeks or so I will post my findings here.
]]>We discuss early on in this blog that Google will never punish duplicate contents but what’s the point of discussing here? Yes Google will never punish but they will only choose one that they believe was the origin source of the article and get it listed in the Google main index result pages. The selection process is going to determine by the number of incoming links of the articles, the page rank value of the page, and any links to the original. Google will only keep one and toss the remaining to the so called “supplemental index”. (Secondary index of Google where the web pages stored will not be shown in the main index.) So how do you avoid such an issue if you want to publish some syndicated contents or re-post your original article to forums, blogs or article directories?
Case #1: Publish Syndicated Contents
If you want to publish syndicated contents to your site, first use a meta robot tags that says:
[quickcode]<meta name=”robots”, content=”noindex, follow”>[/quickcode]
this tell the search engine robots not to index your web page but gives the link value to the source sites. This work but only for sites or blogs which are under your control. So the second solution a is more desirable namely have your articles re-written. This well work for your own contents or “syndicated contents” from different articles source. Well, you may argue about this is plagiarism whatever but many information on the net are some how a replica of something else. For example, when IPod first launches, how many sites or blogs that told you the same thing? Many right? And how about the news agencies? Many of them just used the source contents and without them to rewritten. I am not saying you can copy directly from others people work, but you use it for gathering inspiration. That’s nothing wrong. You can use your own word to describe the same subject. It’s ok as long it is your own work. Just like the search engines duplicate content issues. I am sure it is written so many times but as long as I use my own words when I wrote this article, who cares? I hope you to see my point here.
Case #2: Rewrite your own contents to be ?% of difference
Why I put the “?” in the article? Because no one knows the exact figures unless you are Matt Cutts (Google search engineer whose main responsibilities are fight against web spam). I see some one suggests to have 20% difference and I saw someone says, it is to be at least 30%-40% of difference.
To me, I don’t know and I just listen to them. The most favorable ways of course it totally difference but in practical you can try and writes articles that have 10%. 20%, 30% or 40% of difference and sees which one will stay in the Google main index for say three months or longer without any incoming links to them.
Others Application of Rewriting your Articles
The other application of rewritten articles are building links with your site. Since you are going to submit your articles to different directories or blogs, you should always rewrite each versions before submitting. Later on I will show you a tool that allow you to easily rewrite your articles into 25 unique versions with 30% of difference (when compare to the originally) totally free. This tool is quite useful and so far I am satisfied with the performance after tried it for several times.

Links From Only from Class C IP Network is a myth!
What is an IP address anyway?
Before I give you the reason, let’s look at how today IP addresses work. The existing still in used IP address network is called IPv4 where the computer network industry categorized it in to 4 classes of network, named A, B, C, D and E. With Class D and E are reserved for something else. Which leaves A, B and C widely used nowadays.
A typical IP address consists of 4 octects (bytes) or groups of binary numbers (0 or 1) such as with the decimal notation of 123.27.117.89. Being 123 the first octect, 27 the second, 117 the third and 89 the forth. By definition, each group of numbers can only starts from 0 and ends with the maximum number of 255. So we classify class A network (only consider the first group of the numbers), starts from 0 – 126. Class B starts from 128 – 192. Class C starts from 193-223. With the missing 127 is reserved for the local computer.
Only Counts Class C network?
Thus, if links from only class C IP network is going to count towards the Google ranking calculation, that means you have to get links ONLY from websites that have IP addresses start with 193 to 223 and that’s it! But I can tell you only a very small portion of the entire web have the class C IP addresses. You can do a simple check with a command called “ping” in your windows command prompt. If you are going to ping Google.com for example, you will notice one of their data center IP is from “74.125.67.100″ that is a class A network IP. If you tried Standford university, (standford.edu), one of their IPs is 171.67.22.33, a class B network. You can also try IBM.com, GM.com, Target.com etc. You will find there are really little portion of the Internet are from Class C network.
Therefore, if you only get links from class C network, links from IBM.com, GM.com, target.com are not going to count! Do you think this make sense? To me the answer is obvious.
So the conclusion, getting links from Class C network only is a myth! You can get links from any classes of IPs as long as they are unique. That’s the end of it.
I hope this article do clear up the SEO myth around. Sometimes I really can’t stand with so much misconception and that’s why you need to have a professional to work with your campaign, and do not attempt to do it all by yourself!

]]>When I visited Digital Point Forum, I notice there is a thread about “Google Do Follow Blogs Search Engine“, well, what does that mean? Is Google welcoming blog comments spam then or are they going to discount links on blog comments? At the first glance the page title says “Dofollow blog search” and have Google Logo on it. But as I read along the lines, I found this actually is a custom search box made a user on Google Labs.
The user actually assumed the “dofollow” blogs will put the texts or words “do follow blogs” somewhere on their sites. But will webmasters always add the words “dofollow blogs” somewhere on their sites? That is the first question I have and the second question, does it always return right set of results? Now in order to answer those questions, I spent a few moments and test this tool. Well I have no way to prove it but I test the tool by keying some of the keywords and here are the results:
Test 1: Make Money Online
The custom search returns me a list of blogs that are relevant to “make money online”. The test is simple. If I found one single comment in the blog has the tag “nofollow” or “external_nofollow” then it immediately proves the tool is incorrect. Unfortunately, as I checked along the first two sites along the result list. They do have the “external_nofollow” tag in the blog comments anchored texts. So the tool failed in this test.
Test 2: Weight loss stories.
I still find blogs that have “external nofollow” on the comments section. So in other words, the tool isn’t right at all.
In conclusion, this is an interesting tool but I have to say the user make certain assumption on the targeted blogs (may just take account of “nofollow” on the HTML files but not “external nofollow”. They are actually very similar. In other words, search engines (especially Google), will not consider that link when ranking that page in their algorithm. So to me, this is a toy but not really useful at all.
