Affiliate income hijacked?!

Preventing affiliates income stealing

When promoting others people products one thing that you have to bear in mind is to Avoid your affiliate commission be stolen!”How is it possible?” you asked. First let me explained on how affiliate link works. Most referral links has the format, for example: “http://www.xyz.com?mike. Where xyz.com is an imaginary domain and mike is the person who drive his visitors to xyz.com. Now, for people don’t know mike, they will ask a question when they see this link such as

“Why there is a person’s link at the back?” To some Internet users (especially those savvy), they will know this is a referral link and probably they will (1.) strip off anything beyond the question ‘?’ at the back that is just copy http://www.xyz.com to their browser and (2) if it is a program from click bank, then most likely they will replace your link with their click bank ID and they will have discount when purchasing your recommendation.

Is this possible? Sure it is. I did exactly what I wrote to my affiliate marketing colleagues, strip off their links and replace it with my click bank ID. The merchants will have no problems since they earn their bit but to the affiliate marketers, their commissions were lost!!! Well, I don’t want you guys face the same situation as what I wrote here so I’m going to share what I’ve found useful recently.

I come across an e-book named affiliate Rescue to show its reader on how to avoid potential income theft by following some simple tactics or techniques:

  1. you can use some link cloaker to have your referral link looks more professional, e.g. Instead of somesite.com?p=mike, you have yoursite.com/some-products-from-merchant.html However, it is only half done so to continue
  2. save the sales page to your hard drive, then edit the text use either Dreamweaver, frontpage or even MS word to delete the text where it says “affiliate”, “Joint Venture” and so on.
  3. Sign up their newsletters if the merchant has one and read what they are going to tell you.
  4. Replace their newsletter box to yours, and sign up an autorespoder if you don’t have one.
  5. Register a domain name where it looks similar to the merchant website you are trying to promote.
  6. Upload your altered website to your newly established domain

and many more.

Later I will talk about more interesting points that I found useful in the ebook so stay tune!~
