My Background
Hi everyone! My name is Proson Cheng and I am from Hong Kong. Before I started to make money online, I was a computer system engineer who main role of the job is helping computer end users to solve some desktop type or server types problems. But today I think this type of job is boring, in fact I.T in general it is a rather “risky” industry here in Hong Kong. Why? Well Most companies only expand their I.T. when they have money. For example, remember the SARS outbreak back in 2003? That time it was hard to get an I.T job. I had to lower 20% of the standard salary before I could get a decent position. After all for most companies, they need strong sales and marketing force to get them revenue rather than I.T development. It’s also true with the current financial situation. Company starts to lay off staffs or not hire IT staffs because they know this is the department spending money rather making them money. They will keep the minimum but they are not going to increase. This the first reason that I think to be an IT technical staff, is risky. The other reason is as people getting older, you learning ability as well as your memory are not going to be as good as if one was in their teenager or young adult age. As you know technology changes always, if one doesn’t keep up with the technology, it is going to be hard for them to stay doing computer system engineering. It is hard trust me. So as an IT technical person I have to constant spend my money in certification examination. Well, do I want to do that? To me, the answer is pretty clear. No, I won’t. So these make me think my current choice work doing online business is a right one.
Start Doing a Business
I actually had no plan on starting my online business until in 2007 where I went for an internet marketing coaching program here in Hong Kong. And In fact, I didn’t think I would do any business after I graduated in Electrical Engineering. At that time, perhaps like many young age person, I was full of hope in computer networks or system engineering in general and I wanted to be a Cisco (a computer network company) engineer and that’s it. My dad is a business person who was doing ladies fashion retail before the financial crisis here in Hong Kong during 1997. He always wanted me to help him but back to those days, I had no intention at all. What made my mind changed was perhaps my first involvement in an MLM company called Herbalife. Herbalife is well known for its weight loss or beauty care products, I was involved in the company because I wanted to lose weight. (yeah, I was fat, 180lbs for a 5’7″ person. You couldn’t judge in the picture as it was taken 3 years ago, which my weight was about 148lbs!) I started to use the product and it did work for me. Like many MLM companies, my upline started to persuade me and involved in this business. Well I didn’t want to because I didn’t know how to sell, and in fact I hated selling! But as I was beginning losing weights, my friends, colleagues started to ask me how I did it! Then I began seeing this MLM business seemed to work. This was the first time I really involved in a business.
The Changing Stage
As I was starting to delegate my time to Herbalife, one of my friend started to calling me to other MLM company. This time the company is selling an aromatherapy therapy lamp called Lampe Berger. If you are from Europe, you may have heard the company before. My mind started to change because I learned a great deal in this company. For example, I had a chance to speak in front of class of 30 about my dreams and why I joined that company, some sales and presentation skills like products presentations and their compensation plans calculations, and my mind about the concept of sales in general. Remembered I said I hated selling? They encouraged me to read “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hills, and “How to Win Friends and Influence People” by Dale Carnegie. Those two books are still popular today despite the fact that they were written about 100 years ago. In general, How to Win Friends and influence people said, people are selfish. They don’t care about you unless you care about them. Everyone is the same no matter you are from Asia, America, Britain where ever around the world. This concept does help me a lot. when applying in online business, may be show cares for your subscribers, ask them what they want, what price money they think they are willing to pay for certain service or products, what things they will consider when buying or purchasing some products or services etc. This is a method that you show you care for your subscriber. This is basic marketing concept that everyone should master.
