    Prevent your affiliate commissions being stolen

    Monday, June 30th, 2008

    When I read the posts on most affiliate marketing forums, one thing that most people concerned are
    how to prevent their affiliate commission is being stolen. Before I answer to those questions, let’s look at what most affiliate or referral links look like: http://www.xyz.com/?referid=proson. or http://xyz.com/refid=?123556 etc something like that. If I looked through my archives, I actually did talk about the subject and titled Affiliate commission hijacked?! but today I want to expand the subject a bit more on why you should

    hide your affiliate links and how you can do it in technical side.

    3 reasons you should hide affiliate links

    1. Some people out there think if they purchase with affiliate links, it will cost them more due to the commissions paid to the affiliates. So what they do is chopped off whatever the last part of the link and type directly on the browser for whatever the domain is. In the example above, it will be http://www.xyz.com/ and nothing more. So if they do purchase you will earned nothing!
    2. Some affiliate programs will let affiliate to purchase from their own links and get a discount. A typical example will be those products sold on Click Bank. So what your visitors do, they simply replace your affiliate ID with their IDs. Therefore you will make NOT any commission if they purchase
    3. Some affiliate links look long and unprofessional. Your visitor will have a hard time to remember or type in your links. So to make your links more memorable, a method to hide your affiliate link is important.

    There are a lots of methods to hide your link, but today I will discuss some methods that I will use for your references:

    1. Use a professional link cloaker - There are several free professional online affiliate link cloakers available online. The one I am using is called ViralURL.com The beauty of it is free and you can track your links which you can measure your online advertising efforts. So if you are looking for a professional cloaker, I recommend you to give it a try.
    2. The other method that I will use is using some more advanced techniques like HTML frameset. I know there is someone out there is recommending a PHP redirect solution but the problem is your affiliate link still will be exposed on your visitors browser. So I will use a frameset instead:

      <head>
      <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html;
      charset=utf-8" />
      <title></title>
      </head>
      <frameset>
      <frame name="" id="" frameborder="no" marginwidth="0"
      marginheight="0" src="YOUR AFFILIATE LINK HERE>
      </frameset>
      </html>

    You just replace the “You affiliate link here” in your HTML editor, save it as a HTML file, upload to your server and that’s it! The only problem with this method is you need an external tracker if you want to measure your online marketing campaign.

    List building tutorial - get an autoresponder

    Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

    How many times you heard “money is in the list”? I heard it many times why? Because with a list of subscribers you can find ways to monetize it easily: e.g you can sell them affiliate or your own products, you can provide useful contents and sells your advertising space on your ezine, you can drive traffic to your adsense sites and if your subscribers click on the ads, you can make some money, you can do quite a lot with your subscribers.

    But first you need to know how to build a list. In this tutorial, we will going through step by step on how do I build my list. There are lots of ways but I will put only what works for me and that’s it.

    So how do you build a list?

    First step, get an autoresponder. What is an autoresponder? you ask. Autoresponder basically is a computer program that sends preset email messages to your subscribers. I mean you can send a message when someone optin your list immediately, then 2 days later you send them another message. This what an autoresponder can do for you. I am not going through the details here. If you are not sure, of how autoresponder works, you can try optin to one my list “Ultimate Marketing Guide”, It is a free report that shows you how do you get free traffic, get top 10 rankings in Google and many more. If you don’t know how it works, I will recommend you sign up to that list and get a feel. Don’t worry you can opt-out anytime, and your information will be 100% safe.

    Anyway, so your first step will be getting a reliable autoresponder. Many marketers will suggest you sign up with Aweber or GetResponse. Personally I haven’t tried Aweber but I did try GetResponse. It is a good system. There are videos show you step by step on how to set it up. The best part I like about the system is they have a “spam filter” built in ; what I mean is how likeliness that your email will get caught with spam. You know spamming is a big issue in email marketing. To make sure you important message delivered to your subscribers inbox, I think this feature is important.

    But what I don’t like Getresponse is they let your subscribers to optin to your competitors list. What I mean they will show you another boxes that you can subscribe to!

    So today your action step will be signed up an autoresponder, get familiar with it and that’s it.

    Next week, I will show you how to set up an opt-in form  and add it to your website.  so stay tune!

    Blogging for Profit Begins With a Long Term Plan

    Thursday, June 19th, 2008

    Many people dream of blogging for profit, and this goal is not far beyond the reach of someone with average intelligence, a willingness to work hard, and a basic grasp of blogging technology. However, very few people manage to reap the profits they want from their blog. Most people who attempt to make money with their blogs do not succeed for two

    reasons. Often, bloggers have unrealistic expectations of how fast their readership will grow and how much money they will make, and when these expectations are not met the disappointment can crush the desire to continue blogging. The other trap that many bloggers fall into has to do with lack of planning. If you want to turn a profit as a blogger, the key to success is to make a realistic plan and stick with it.

    To succeed at blogging for profit, the main thing that you will need is a large readership. The higher your traffic, the more advertisers will agree to pay you. However, cultivating the regular visitors that you will need in order to make a profit isnt easy. As more and more blogs appear each day, having a great idea or a wonderful writing style is no longer enough to get attention. You need to be able to market your blog effectively.

    Too many bloggers spend all of their time writing posts and almost no time marketing their project. To be certain, updating as often as you can is a great way to keep your blog high on blogrolls and high in blog search engines like technorati, and once your readers know that you update frequently they will return to your site on a regular basis. However, it does not matter how often you update if nobody is reading your page, so don’t skimp on the time that you spend drawing visitors to your site. To make your dreams of blogging for profit a reality, try decreasing your number of posts and using some of that time to draw new visitors by setting up link exchanges with other bloggers, making contacts in the blog community, and following other established modes of winning traffic.

    Of course, even if you are a marketing genius or have a really great idea for a blog, success is not going to happen overnight. Building the kind of readership that blogging for profit requires takes time, and in all likelihood it will be at least several months before you are able to turn much of a profit. Try to stay committed to your blogging project during this initial rough period. To stay motivated, set goals for how often you will update and how many readers you want to attract, and then reward yourself for sticking with your plan.
